Problem-solving and teamwork is the name of the game for this second-semester course. We'll incorporate simple, age-appropriate science and math concepts into each month's STEM theme. Students will work cooperatively to brainstorm, design, and create solutions to challenges. This is a highly interactive, brain-stimulating adventure with Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics for young minds!
Theme Units Include:
Desert Island Challenge - Help Captain Rob survive the shipwreck! Build a hut, construct a bridge, design a raft, etc.
Amusement Park Challenge - Construct a roller coaster, create a Ferris wheel, design a merry-go-round and more! It's a quest to invent the greatest amusement park of all time.
Great Pioneer Town Challenge - Follow the pioneers as they head out in search of new land. Help them build a tower, create a water filtration system, construct a cabin, design a solar water heater and more.
Students will work in cooperative groups to asses the given problem, design and build creations, and test solutions. We'll use craft supplies, recycled materials, tons of "junk," and oodles of hot glue and tape!
There is no required homework for the class, but extension activities will be given for optional completion at home.
