Course Description
While some colleges remain “test optional” for admission, these policies don't always apply to homeschooled students. Additionally, the ACT score often remains an important element in an application for students to receive scholarships, admission to clubs/organizations and for future jobs. A solid ACT score can only help a student stand out amongst his/her peers when it comes to applications.
Contrary to popular belief, the ACT is not an intelligence test, but is designed to be a test upon which students can improve their scores if they are willing to put in the effort!
This class will provide structure, accountability, and tools for students to increase their ACT composite score in the following ways:
Students will review basic content information for each of the sections of the ACT
Students learn and apply unique test-taking strategies for each of the sections of the ACT
Students will frequently practice actual ACT test questions which will promote familiarity with the style of the test, help students identify and correct their particular pitfalls, and reduce ACT test anxiety.
Corporate teaching on commonly missed questions and individual review of answer explanations will help students correct their errors.
Practicing adequate pacing for each of the sections ensures students will correctly answer as many questions as possible without wasting precious time.
The environment of this class will be upbeat and positive, encouraging students to do their personal best with where they are educationally.
Homework
Optional outside reading or assignments will be offered for motivated students. Students who are absent on testing days will be expected to make up tests given in class on their own time and report their scores to Mrs. Morris.
Graduation Requirements
