Course Description
This class is designed to give younger students an introduction to Spanish and prepare them for a more formal course with high school credit.
The introductory Spanish class gives students a taste of formal language instruction, but with more emphasis on pronunciation and noticing similarities between Spanish and English. Through games, stories, songs, cultural activities, and short presentations, students will develop an interest in taking on a second language!
This class is highly interactive and will focus on giving your student as much practice as possible, both speaking and listening to the language in an age-appropriate setting for upper elementary and middle school students.
Homework
Occasionally, students will need to complete a practice page at home, although most written work will be completed during class time.
Graduation Requirements
None
Notes
Due to the once-a-week classtime, it is important for your student to review the slides, videos & online resources for visual and audio reinforcement, and to practice saying Spanish words and phrases at home.
Required Books & Materials
(Students are responsible for purchasing textbooks unless stated otherwise.)
The instructor will provide access to the weekly objectives and work via Google Classroom: posting Google Slides, pdf copies of work with answer keys as necessary, and other resources. Printed student handouts will be provided by the teacher during class time. Students will also have access to online educational websites with songs and activities geared to middle school students. (The class fee goes toward subscriptions and printing costs.)
