Course Description
This course offers an engaging, accessible introduction to the study of the human mind and behavior, specifically exploring how our God-given brains process the world around us. We will dive into the history of psychology, the biological foundations of the brain, and the development of personality.
Students will develop essential life skills such as building relationships, handling emotions, and crisis intervention while engaging in meaningful, hands-on projects and research.
Course Objectives:
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
Explain the basic functions of the brain, genetics, and human perception.
Summarize the history of psychology from ancient times to the modern era.
Apply psychological principles to real-life scenarios, such as improving personal communication and supporting friends in crisis.
Analyze different personality theories through the lense of faith.
Identify the signs of abnormal psychology and the basics of psychological testing.
Demonstrate a foundational understanding of psychological research, statistics, and the diverse career opportunities available within the field.
Homework
1-2 hours per week. Students will complete weekly readings and practical activities designed to apply psychological concepts to real-life situations.
