Course Description
Students will focus on an in-depth study of great authors or literarily movements, while
exploring the context of the author’s life and work through additional reading and writing. This offers an opportunity to practice writing in a number of different formats, as well as the opportunity to grow thoroughly familiar with some of the greatest writers and literary works of all time. The literature will be studied in its historic, literary, and artistic contexts to help students learn to think and write analytically. Using the IEW writing curriculum, students will broaden their composition skills by examining model essays by students and published writers in various genres. Through in-depth planning, organizing, drafting, revising, proofreading, and feedback while also building on their grammar, usage, and mechanics skills with in-depth study of sentence analysis and structure, agreement, and punctuation utilizing the IEW Fix It Grammar program. This intensive grammar program is excellent in preparing students for the ACT/SAT exam.
