Course Description

Travel back to a time of pioneers and inventors, abolitionists and reformers, soldiers and statesmen.

America’s Story 2 invites you on a rich, story-driven journey through U.S. history from the early 1800s to the early 1900s—a period filled with courage, conflict, and incredible change.

Rather than memorizing dry facts, students encounter history through compelling books, vivid biographies, original documents, and thoughtful discussions. We will follow America’s westward expansion, wrestle with the causes and consequences of the Civil War, explore the struggles of Reconstruction, and witness the rise of industry, immigration, and innovation that shaped a growing nation.

This course will emphasize narration, critical thinking, and meaningful conversations. We will see how faith, character, and God’s providence are woven through America’s unfolding story through novels, hands-on activities, in-class discussion, and fun review games.  By the end of the year, students won’t just know history—they’ll understand it, remember it, and see how it connects to the world they live in today.

In-class activities include discussion of the historical novel being read at home, discussion of the textbook/homework, timeline activity, hands-on projects, drawings of the events and historical figures, and sampling the food that these Americans enjoyed at the time.

Homework

Approximately 1 ½ hours per week.

Each week, students will read a chapter from American’s Story 2 and the assigned novel reading as well as complete the homework review assignment.
