Course Description

Understanding economic principles and financial literacy is necessary in real-world experiences. This course is designed to provide students with the fundamental principles and concepts of economics and personal finance.

In the first semester, some of the lessons will cover essential economic concepts that include decision-making, microeconomics, macroeconomics, basic economic principles, market structures, international trade, economic systems, current economic issues, the Federal Reserve System, and the U.S. economic history.

The second semester aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills to make informed financial and career decisions. The students will explore a range of topics with real-world simulations. Some topics that will be covered are budgeting, banking, credit, insurance, spending, taxes, saving, investing, debt management and job/career exploration.

In class students will be paid in our classroom banking system for their class contributions. They will have investment options as well as fictitious bills to pay in class. Students engage in class lectures, note taking, interactive discussions, debates, hands-on activities, analyzing case studies, regular assessments, tests, and projects.
