Course Description
This is an advanced high school biology course for students who have completed high school Biology and Chemistry science courses. This course spans the geography of the oceans, marine ecosystems, and a survey of marine life across various biological kingdoms. Topics include plate tectonics, salinity & density, waves, tides, and other physical characteristics-before studying sea creatures and the different types of ocean zones. Students will focus on life in the sea, marine invertebrates, marine vertebrates, marine ecology, the intertidal zone, estuary communities, coral reefs, continental shelf communities, the deep ocean, and more.
This class is heavy in dissection with over 20 different marine specimens being dissected or examined. Students will need to prepare at home prior to each dissection. I hope that through this advanced biology course students will get a hands-on look at the diversity and design as well as the complexity and beauty God established in the marine environment.
