Course Description
This course will cover the people and events that have shaped and transformed our state. Topic highlights include:
Geography of OK
Exploration & Indigenous People groups
Indian removal
Post Civil-War Indian Territory
Life on the Prairie
Statehood
Dust Bowl / Great Depression
OK in WW2
Tulsa Race Massacre
Oil Boom / Osage Indian Murders
Expansion
OKC Bombing
Famous Oklahomans
The class will include at-home reading assignments, note-taking, weekly discussions, and special projects. Students will participate in vibrant discussions of important political and ideological movements, as well as economic, cultural, and political accomplishments. We will explore the major events and develop critical thinking skills about our changing state.
The class will also include podcast selections, Oklahoma map annotations, videos, guest speakers, and suggested field trips to local museums and places of interest.
Two or three field trips will be scheduled. Students are required to attend at least one field trip or make arrangements with the instructor if that is not possible.
Homework
Allow approximately 2 hours each week for homework. Students will choose independent projects from a list of options. Students must be able to write short essays in MLA format.

Notes
Tuesday 1 has an option for a fall or spring class. Wednesday 4 is a fall only class.
