Course Description
This class is designed to meet the requirements for a first-year high school Spanish 1 course.
By the end of this course, students should successfully navigate a variety of basic communicative tasks needed for survival in a Spanish-speaking world. They will also have gained a more global perspective through more profound knowledge and understanding of Hispanic culture. The goal is to prepare students to use the language to participate in Spanish-speaking communities both at home and worldwide.
Homework
Students will be assigned a variety of work to complete at home and return in class or upload to Google Classroom. These will include grammatical, vocabulary, and literature practices in addition to map work and more. Please expect to spend an average of ten minutes a day completing written and on-line work and reviewing grammatical and vocabulary concepts.
Given the nature of a weekly language course, it is vital that students commit to consistent review of their materials and practice in their notes and provided skills websites. Students will find great benefit in spending at least ten minutes a day reviewing and practicing their materials.
Approximate time for homework each week outside of class: 2-3 hours
Graduation Requirements
1 Foreign Language credit
Notes
Although the state of Oklahoma no longer requires two years of a foreign language to graduate high school, most colleges and universities often require two foreign language credits.
This is a high school level class and requires daily review of content to be successful. Students who are not passing Spanish 1 will not be allowed to enroll in Spanish 2.
